A lab report is a carefully crafted argument meant to persuade an audience to accept your findings and conclusion. The content needed in a lab report is:
- Title: Should be informative and interesting enough to persuade the audience to want to read it.
- Abstract: Summarizes the entire report in one paragraph
- Introduction: Where you begin establishing your work’s importance
- Materials and methods: Your list of materials and the procedure done to reach a conclusion
- Results: Shares any of the data, graphs, and equations used during the experiment
- Discussion: Discusses the results/findings of the experiment and reviews the hypothesis.
- Conclusion: Summarize the main points covered in one or two concise paragraphs
- Acknowledgement: If any assistance, funding, etc was received in assisting with the completion of the report, note those individuals in this section.
- Appendix: Appropriate place for information that readers do not need to understand the body of your lab report.
