A memo is a brief document used for routine communication within organizations. It is usually used to convey decisions, meeting agendas, policies, internal reports, and short proposals. The segments needed in a memo are:
- Opening Segment: Displays the purpose, context, and problem of the issue. Provides an assignment and task.
- Context: Circumstances, events, or background of the problem you wish to solve.
- Task Segment: Briefly describe what you are doing to solve the problem by being persuasive.
- Summary Segment: If the memo is more than one page long, briefly describe the key recommendations.
- Discussion Segment: Details that support your idea (put the strongest points first).
- Closing Segment: Courteous ending that states what action you want the reader to take
- Necessary Attachments: Document indings or provide detailed information
