My original definition and even the way I approached stance have remained the same. The definition of stance is the attitude towards the topic you decide to write about. Stance affects the content heavily since it displays the tone of the document and reflects your opinion on the topic.
For example, in my engineering team proposal, my team and I proposed to have a shelter built for people who were forced out of their homes in St. Bernard Parish, New Orleans after the incident caused by hurricane Katrina. My stance on the topic was simply, “The emergency shelter is needed because it can help protect and save people’s lives.” Short explanation, yet, so effective to set the purpose of the whole document. It sets the purpose that building the emergency shelter in St. Bernard Parish is effective to save people’s lives, good for their mental health, and the victims will receive the supplies needed.
